upEducators, in collaboration with Google for Education, conducted AI Adoption Training for Students, Faculty Members and Admins of IIT Hyderabad and IIT Bombay

upEducators, in association with Google for Education, has recently conducted specialised AI training sessions for the college faculty members of IIT Bombay and students, faculty members, and admins of IIT Hyderabad. The in-person training sessions are part of upEducators and Google for Education’s larger mission to prepare higher education institutions for the future ahead that is increasingly being shaped by Artificial Intelligence.

In the past few months, upEducators has conducted AI readiness and faculty development training sessions in both online and in-person formats for leading universities like IIT Kharagpur, B.H.U, Somaiya Vidyavihar University, D.Y. Patil University, Manav Rachna University, Karnavati University, Marwadi Education Foundation, Techno India University, Malla Reddy University, Aditya University, Symbiosis College Pune, Delhi University and others.

With over 60,000 educators already trained in AI across the country, upEducators is reshaping how India’s top educators and institutions are using technology and AI in the classroom.

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t just about a few workshops. It’s about something much bigger.

India is home to over 43 million enrolled students across 1,000+ universities and 40,000+ colleges, making it one of the largest higher education systems in the world, according to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE). And the country is racing ahead in the AI space; institutions like the IITs are already working on landmark projects like BharatGen, India’s own large language model. But technology alone isn’t enough. The people using it need to be ready too.

That’s the gap upEducators is working to close.

By training the trainers, they are making sure that when professors at IIT Bombay or IIT Hyderabad start meaningfully integrating AI into their teaching and research workflows, that knowledge travels. It gets discussed at conferences. It shows up in research papers. It influences how affiliated colleges design their own programmes. It shapes what companies expect when they hire IIT graduates.

The classroom is just the starting point.

This is why the IIT-first approach from upEducators makes a lot of sense. If you want to change how AI is taught and used across Indian higher education, starting with the institutions that set the agenda for everyone else is exactly the right place to begin.

The response from both institutes has been incredible,” said Ankush Bhandari, Founder of upEducators. “We started in IIT Bombay and saw how eager the faculty was to learn. When we took the same AI program to IIT Hyderabad, it was the same energy. Professors, students, and admins want to use AI; they just need the right guidance. That’s what we’re here for.

With Hyderabad and Bombay done, upEducators is now looking at expanding these programs to more institutes across India. It believes real and meaningful AI adoption begins with educators — when they have the right knowledge, they can lead, guide, inspire, and instil responsible AI practices in their students. The mission is simple: to make teachers the architects of AI adoption, and only then can we achieve real AI readiness in our education system.

India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020) explicitly calls for AI and digital technology to be embedded into higher education at every level. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has been pushing institutions to update their faculty development programmes accordingly. The policy environment is aligned. The need is clearly there.

Organisations like upEducators, with the right partnerships, the right curriculum, and the commitment to actually showing up in person and doing the work, are in a strong position to fill that gap.
