Course FAQs
Coding, sometimes called computer programming, is how we communicate with computers. Code tells a computer what actions to take, and writing code is like creating a set of instructions. By learning to write code, you can tell computers what to do or how to behave in a much faster way. You can use this skill to make websites and apps, process data, and do lots of other cool things.
When educators were in the school, coding was not the subject that is why very few teachers have learned coding in their school. Whereas, children nowadays, have had technology in their lives since they were born. When it comes to technology, students always seem to be one step ahead from teachers. So, to bridge this gap, learning Coding is becoming an important skill set in this digital age.
Thousands of students are learning coding. Coding isn’t just about communicating with a computer – it’s also about learning how to think. Kids gain important academic and interpersonal skills as they learn to code, including math and writing, as well as creativity and confidence. Kids even build soft skills such as focus, resilience, and communication. This helps to develop 21 century skills like problem solving. Coding also enhances thinking ability and enables one to think logically, strategically and analytically.
Learning coding helps teachers to incorporate coding in their lesson plan effectively, to teach coding to students, to explore and develop coding teaching skills with a blend of technological & pedagogical skills.
Yes! Previously, only computer science teachers were responsible for teaching coding. But in this digital Age, coding has become one of the most important skills, because learning to code involves logic, problem-solving, backwards planning, and other broadly applicable thinking skills.
Teachers of all subject areas are now considering making coding a part of their content area. In fact, now many students are using coding projects to demonstrate knowledge in any subject.
In language and arts, for example, you could add a challenging and creative new dimension to a literature unit by having students create code programs that allow users to interact with characters. Or, students could extend the plot of a novel by creating a choose-your-own-adventure story.
Coding projects not only potentially enhance specific subject areas like computer science, art or language but also are great opportunities for cross-disciplinary, project-based learning for subjects like Maths and science.
Having your students program their own calculator to put their mathematical understanding to the test. Challenge your students to create a program that does certain calculations or equations for you.
You don’t need to be an expert in coding. Any teacher with a basic knowledge in computers can integrate basic computer science concepts into their lesson plans in creative, relatable ways.
The programs in upEducators, are designed for any educator who wants to learn more about coding instruction. Teachers do not need prior knowledge of math or computer programming.
Especially with the introduction of block coding, learning coding has become easier for the students from non- technical backgrounds.
Block coding is the most basic form of computer programming and a great way for students and teachers from non technical backgrounds to get started. Rather than having to write complex lines of computer code, with block coding, students can use visual instruction blocks to create games or moving animations – it uses a simple drag and drop interface.
Yes, we have seen many teachers from non-computer science areas learning coding and teaching to their students along with their regular subjects. This is helping teachers in augmenting their income and also helping them to deliver engaging coding classes because they are already aware of students’ learning style.
In the market many courses of learning coding are available but the focus of those programs is to teach coding to students.
At upEducators we have designed a course with focus on Teachers. In this training course, you will not only learn coding, but also understand coding at pedagogical level and learn how to teach coding and how to integrate coding with your existing subjects. We have designed projects on subjects related to Maths, Science, Social Science, English and other subjects, so that teachers can practice enough to integrate coding with their respective subjects.
The Ministry of Education has introduced the New Education Policy (NEP) which will break through traditional methodologies and systems to provide a more holistic learning for students across the country. One of the prominent reforms announced in the NEP is the initiation of classes on coding for students from class 6 onwards.
Coding is a game-changer and the ones who are skilled in coding have a competitive advantage in career. With coding becoming an essential part of school curriculum nowadays, Certified Coding teachers are in great demand. Other than schools, many educational platforms and many Ed-Tech companies have taken steps to teach kids code. Since the use of coding will increase significantly in future, it’s become important for teachers to upskill now rather than wait for later.
